Current and Previous Positions

Independent Consultant
July 2013-

Deputy Director, Lakeside Arts Centre, The University of Nottingham
August 2010-June 2013
Lakeside is an arts venue with a rich programme incorporating theatre, dance, comedy, literature, music, visual arts, crafts, and archaeology. My role involved supporting city-wide initiatives in marketing and education; supporting finance, HR, estates and resource management, commercial services and fundraising; as well as strategic leadership in learning, with direct line management of the learning, front of house, and technical teams. I was the client project lead on a major expansion of the Djanogly Art Gallery, and relocation of the Museum of Archaeology, and oversaw a large increase in participation levels in learning.

Consultant in the Cultural Sector
April 2007-August 2010
This was a new independent consultancy in which I led and managed projects often involving digitisation of museum collections. I undertook consultation, provided analysis of strategic options and recommendations for implementation in projects for local and national museums, consortia, and membership organisations; and devised and authored guidance. On a number of projects I worked with associates in the sector. Projects included an assessment and report on barcode and RFID technologies, and online guidance on digitisation and preservation of digital assets.

Head of Administration, The Whitworth Art Gallery, The University of Manchester
January 2005-April 2007
The Whitworth has designated collections of fine art, textiles and wallpapers and an ambitious exhibitions programme. I held senior management responsibilities for the development of the building, IT, commercial services, front of house, HR and finance. I worked on major capital developments, and played a key role in the Whitworth’s membership of Renaissance North West in particular at a strategic level, and in digitisation and workforce development. My first role at the Gallery was Exhibitions Officer.

Various management, curatorial, and exhibitions positions at the Whitworth Art Gallery, and Portsmouth City Museums.
To December 2004

Education

Diploma in Art Gallery and Museum Studies, The University of Manchester

BA Honours in History of Art, The University of Manchester
